Project: Data Collection and Program Evaluation for After School Programs
Client: Granting Agency
A foundation commissioned Numeritics to develop a repeatable data collection and program evaluation process for After School programs in the Pittsburgh area. As part of the process, we are working with a cohort of three agencies to determine present data collection and identify agencies’ program outcomes. The process will include establishing baseline data, conducting logic model workshops and working with the agencies to develop a strategy for enhancing their capacity for data collection and the tracking of key performance metrics. We will also be creating a Program Design toolkit that will provide detailed instructions on how the agencies can utilize the data collected and the metrics they are tracking to improve program effectiveness.
Project: Scenario-based Strategic Planning
Client: Manufacturing Firm
A manufacturing entity facing uncertain demand for its products requested Numeritics’ help in fashioning the firm’s long term strategy. The strategy will address the uncertainties created by a variable foreign exchange rate and unknown market demand. In addition, it will also communicate the process down to the level of business units and employees. We achieve these objectives by implementing a planning model that runs simulation exercises to tackle the uncertainties in the strategic planning process and that focuses on the firm's operational activities in a manner that drives the firm's strategic objectives.
Project: Assets and Liabilities Management within a Risk Framework
Client: Finance Company
A finance company wishes to determine how it can minimize exposure to different forms of risk while maintaining the appropriate combination of assets and liabilities in order to maximize shareholders’ wealth. Numeritics developed a model that generated risk-return combinations that maximize profits and ensured the long term sustainability of the financial company.
Project: Design and Implementation of a Corporate Balanced Score Card.
Client: Multilateral Development Bank
As part of the institution’s strategic plan implementation, a multilateral development bank seeks to improve organizational performance by measuring key drivers and performance indicators of its operations and seeks to achieve better alignment between the organization’s strategy and employees' day to day activities. To address these issues, we took the lead in the design and implementation of the bank’s corporate balanced scorecard.
Project: Aligning a firm’s operational activities with its strategic goals.
Client: Pharmaceutical Firm
A pharmaceutical firm that has been struggling with declining profit and reduced market share desires an approach that not only makes the best use of existing facilities, but also provides intangible insights into the future selective expansion of equipment consistent with the firm’s long term goals and objectives. To achieve these objectives, we conceptualized and implemented a Multiple Criteria Decision-making Methodology that focused on aligning the firm’s operational activities with its strategic goals.
Project: Cross Metropolitan Quality of Life Study
Client: Economic Development Authority
A mid size Canadian city was having problems growing and attracting investors and a competent workforce. As part of the attraction effort, the city commissioned a Quality of Life Index study. We computed a cross metropolitan index measure that builds on the UNDP Human Development Report but we were able to capture the finer subtleties that the UNDP approach fails to reveal for intra-country comparison by using normalized measures of economic well-being from Reports from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Project: Collaboration Among Human Service Providers
Client: Public Charitable Foundation
The client sought to identify potential collaborators and foster a dialogue focused on implementing collaboration as a way to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of human services providers. We led four focus groups with up to 50 participants to identify barriers to collaboration and organizational strategies to overcome these barriers. We applied innovative network analysis techniques to primary data collected from survey responses and developed a series of recommendations that have received interest from numerous foundations and human service agencies.
Project: Identifying a Knowledge Network
Client: Research Organization
Using a variety of tools from social and dynamic network analysis, we mapped out the knowledge network of a research organization. The purpose of this mapping is to identify areas of experts and expertise in the organization, which can be used to pursue partnerships, collaborations and joint ventures.
Project: Productivity Improvements
Client: Defense organization
The client sought guidance on improving productivity and reducing costs while maintaining operational readiness. We then developed an examination of a defense department’s maintenance projections using statistical analysis, which was able to aid the client in making more efficient use of available resources.
Project: Grant making & Program Intelligence
Client: Private Charitable Foundation
A large Pittsburgh foundation, with total assets in excess of $250M hoped to attract greater investment in its communities and topics of interest from national foundations. Using a variety of data sources, we compiled individual profiles on 20 compatible national foundations, comparing them to our client and assessing their compatibility and the potential profitability of attracting their investment. To identify good prospects, we also analyzed the target foundations’ social networks, identifying ways that our client could tap into those networks in order to connect with potential partners.
Project: Economic Impact Study
Client: Nonprofit Arts Organization
In the midst of a multi-year capital campaign, the client’s federal and state funding was in jeopardy, prompting the client’s leadership team to develop clear and accurate estimates of its impact on the region’s already-struggling economy. We worked with the client and its fundraising consultants to develop budget projections, attendance estimates, and visitor spending profiles, which served as inputs for a customized economic impact model based on IMPLAN input/output tables. Our economic impact model became a centerpiece of the client’s renewed campaign, showing its significant positive economic impact on the area’s economy.
